Island residents looking for an alternative to this weekend’s festival crowds are being encouraged to make the most of Hovertravel’s late Sunday evening crossings, with seats still available on the 23:00 and 23:30 departures from Southsea to Ryde.
The later flights open up the possibility of a full day away from the Isle of Wight, allowing travellers to take advantage of Hovertravel’s Advance Fare and explore destinations across the South Coast and beyond before returning home the same evening.
From the historic streets of Winchester and Oxford to the independent shops and attractions of Bath and Bristol, there are countless opportunities for a memorable day out.
Closer to home, visitors can enjoy the beaches and entertainment of Bournemouth or Brighton, the shopping and dining options of Guildford, or simply spend more time discovering everything Portsmouth and Southsea have to offer before heading back to the Island later that night.
For those seeking a bigger adventure, London is comfortably within reach. With fast rail connections from Portsmouth Harbour, customers can enjoy a full day in the capital- whether that’s taking in a West End show, visiting a museum, enjoying some retail therapy, or dining with friends – before catching a train back to Southsea in time for one of Hovertravel’s late return crossings.
With the hovercraft journey taking less than ten minutes and excellent onward rail connections available from Portsmouth, the extended timetable provides extra flexibility for spontaneous adventures and planned day trips alike.
Loretta Lale, Head of Marketing at Hovertravel, said:
“While many people will be enjoying the festival this weekend, others may be looking for something completely different. Our later Sunday flights create the perfect opportunity for a full day away, whether that’s exploring historic cities, enjoying some shopping, meeting friends or simply making the most of a summer day on the mainland.”
“The weather is looking fair and summer is a wonderful time to get out and explore. Thanks to our late evening crossings, customers can make the most of their day knowing they can still be back on the Isle of Wight before midnight. Once at Hovertravel you’re only ten minutes away from the island.”
Seats are still available on the 23:00 and 23:30 departures from Southsea on Sunday. Customers are advised to book in advance to secure their preferred crossing times.”
