Wetwheels, the accessible boating charity, will be offering disabled people the chance to experience the thrill of powerboating from Cowes next month as part of this year’s Round the Island Race weekend.
The charity will be running inclusive trips from Cowes throughout the day on Friday 6th June, providing participants – including those with profound and complex disabilities – with a safe and fully accessible boating experience.
Each trip encourages hands-on involvement, allowing individuals to take the helm and enjoy the open water with confidence.
Wetwheels Hamble is part of the national Wetwheels Foundation, which works to ensure that disabled people can access the sea with dignity and independence. The charity’s continued involvement in the Round the Island Race reinforces its commitment to breaking down barriers and promoting inclusion within maritime events.
Ted Hill MBE, Chair of Wetwheels Hamble, has said:
“Round the Island Race is one of the most celebrated events in the UK sailing calendar, and it’s a huge privilege for Wetwheels Hamble to be part of it. We are passionate about creating opportunities for everyone to enjoy the sea, and we’re thrilled to offer inclusive trips from Cowes again this year. It’s about empowerment, adventure, and changing lives.”
Wetwheels will be based in Cowes throughout the weekend (6th-8th June), engaging with the public, raising awareness of their work, and inviting community groups and visitors to learn more.
Trips on 6th June are available to disabled participants and their families or carers. Booking is essential and can be made by contacting Suez on 07733 944321.
