The prospect of a new pub opening on Sandown High Street on the Isle of Wight has caused alarm over urine, vomit and drunken disorder, says the public.
Anti-social behaviour would likely be ‘exacerbated’ by Emma Addrison’s proposal for a licensed premises at a former vegan deli on 13 High Street, Sandown, a resident has warned.
The potential pub would not be manufacturing any drinks and will sell to the public in line with licensing conditions, according to Miss Addrison’s application form.
Giles Conrad, who lives next to the site, said:
“The covered corridor leading to mine and another front door is adjacent to the site. I frequently have to wash this area due to urine and vomit.
“I imagine this would become worse should this premises become a pub.”
Another objector, Diane Cramp, said the proposed changes would increase the risk of ‘trespassing’ into her garden, using it as a thoroughfare onto the adjacent pub.
Karen Smedley said:
“Sandown High Street is already a hub for anti-social behaviour and street drinking.
“Having a pub there adds to the misery of the local community.”
The Isle of Wight Council’s public consultation on the application is live until 31st July, with a decision scheduled for 25th August.

Well what do you expect?
Who really cares, you can smell weed throughout Sandown.
Sandown is hardly a law abiding place,
one can evade paying parking charges by parking on the pavement outside the old tourist information centre opposite Sandown Pier
inside a pedestrianised zone.
Sandown is lawless, not to mention twits parking on
Double Yellow Lines outside the Pier and along
Pier Street and outside Napoleon’s Landing.
Sandown Town Council or Isle of Wight council
allow dishonesty and law breaking in the town.
Just what we need. Something to make Sandown High Street even more unpleasant.
What do you want to fill these closed premises? How does a well-run bar make the street unpleasant?
Emma has no plans to open a ‘lager lout’ pub; quite the opposite in fact. I can accept there is problem drinking in Sandown, just as there is in most towns, but the
irresponsible people are generally getting their alcohol from the off-licence premises such as ‘local’ supermarket stores and corner shops at a much cheaper price, not the bars and pubs.
There are too many pubs on the island, this
just proves that the island has more than it’s fair share
of p*ssheads.
More pubs will just encourage more drink driving.
Should have stayed has a cafe.
“There are too many pubs on the island”
Really EiE ???
There are a fraction of the numbers of pubs and clubs, now, that there were in the70s and 80s.
To be fair, urine and vomit would improve Shatdowns appearance
Not a fair comment. Please offer solutions not criticism
You idiots all you want to do is berate Sandown or any other town that takes your fancy. Grow up.
