A ‘bomb’ hoax at St Mary’s Hospital last night (Saturday) is being thoroughly investigated by Police.
It was at around 22:00 last night that Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary received a report relating to a possible security threat at St Mary’s Hospital.
There were suggestions that the facility was put ‘on lockdown’ due to a ‘bomb threat’.
With police quickly dispatched to the scene, officers liaised with hospital staff and a search of the premises was carried out as a precaution.
Nothing of concern was found and this is being treated as a hoax.
Investigations are ongoing to establish who is responsible.
