A Ryde man who stole a single can of Monster Energy from a Shanklin supermarket told magistrates he did so because it was ‘too hot’.
Sam Scott-Jackson, 35, of Green Street in Ryde, admitted a single count of theft from a shop when he appeared at the Isle of Wight Magistrates Court earlier this week (Friday).
Prosecuting, Serena Edwards, told the court that on the 31st May, Scott-Jackson was caught on CCTV stealing a single can of Monster Energy from The Co-op in Shanklin.
Court heard how Scott-Jackson was identified by police.
Defending himself, Scott-Jackson simply said he stole the can because it was “too hot”.
Magistrates fined £40 and ordered he pay £85 costs, £16 a surcharge fee and £2.40 compensation to the Co-op.
So they have time to prosecute a person for stealing a can of drink
whilst vehicles drive around the island for months with no MOT
which means NO insurance and vehicles break the law by speeding
everyday and nothing gets done about it.
The law works in peculiar ways.
Stealing is wrong but it doesn’t kill, speeding kills
and vehicles with no MOT maybe a safety issue.
Priorities are wrong.
Just a few minuets ago some asshole speeding and overtaking through Binstead, Fishbourne and Wootton in a white van with refrigeration cooler on the roof, headed off towards Racecourse. Plod never there when needed but would be there if I had a break light out
I doubt it they don’t seem to bet involved with
motor related offences.

IW Council pension pot, and that is one big pot.
Law and Order is out of touch with reality if they are
more bothered about a can of overpriced drink.
Unbelievable waste of time and our money, for a can of drink. How much did it cost for the police, judge, solicitors, admin and even usher on his day in court.
Seems to me its all of the above just keeping themselves in work.
Complete waste of time and money in the wrong direction.
Road offences should be prosecuted, absolutely but this man is a thief and should be prosecuted as one, not given the idea that he or anyone else can just take whatever they want. Those complaining about his treatment would be outraged if he stole from them and the police failed to act.
How about we let everyone steal what they want? Up to a value of, let’s say £3,000, then we all have to pay for it, and the thieving skanks get away with it?
