A rare behind-the-scenes look at the operation and marketing of the world’s last seagoing paddle steamer will be shared at a free Isle of Wight event.
A unique presentation focusing on the iconic Waverley will take place on the Isle of Wight later this month.
Organised by the Paddle Steamer Preservation Society, the event is being held at East Cowes Town Hall on Saturday 11th April between 14:00 and 17:00. Attendance is free and open to all, with refreshments available.
In a first for the Isle of Wight, Waverley’s General Manager, Paul Semple, and Marketing Manager, Samuel Brown, will deliver a joint presentation offering insight into how the historic vessel is both maintained and promoted.

Attendees will also have the opportunity to speak with both speakers and ask questions following the presentation.
Samuel Brown will outline his journey with Waverley over the past four seasons, explaining how modern marketing techniques are used to promote the vessel across the UK. Real-world examples will highlight the range of communication channels used to attract new audiences and support the ship’s long-term future.
Meanwhile, Paul Semple will provide an update on Waverley’s current winter refit, which has seen investment exceeding £1.5million.
The extensive works have included the installation of new masts, bespoke windows, a modern fire suppression system, hull improvements and the dismantling of the port paddlebox.
Together, the presentation will offer a comprehensive overview of the operational and commercial challenges involved in preserving and running the world’s last seagoing paddle steamer.
Full details of Waverley’s 2026 South Coast and Isle of Wight sailings will also be revealed at the event. The vessel is due to operate from the Island between Friday 4th September and Tuesday 22nd September, with bookings set to open in the coming week.
