Visit Isle of Wight is working with the Isle of Wight Council to ensure that visitors to the Island can enjoy everything on offer while maintaining its Tier 1 status – with a very clear message that those in Tier 3 locations should not travel to the Isle of Wight.
The Isle of Wight – along with Cornwall and the Isles of Scilly – is currently one of the only places in England to be placed on a ‘medium’ alert status.
Tourism is one of the main economic drivers of the popular south coast destination, and visitors have long been welcomed to enjoy its warm hospitality, attractions, events, the countryside and beaches.
Recognising the importance of tourism while balancing the health and needs of the local population, Visit Isle of Wight and the local council are requesting that visitors should travel ‘the Wight way’, which includes:
- Wearing a face covering when required
- Maintaining social distancing
- Washing your hands regularly
- Travelling only from Tiers 1 and 2 regions to the Island
- Adhering to all Government and local advice and restrictions
Will Myles, Managing Director of Visit Isle of Wight, has said:
“Our Isle of Wight community has worked hard to keep the infection rates low and we are reminding our visitors to respect that effort by following the guidelines and following the measures that have been put in place by the Government, the local authority and the businesses here.
“Our message to visitors is that when choosing somewhere to stay, we thank you for choosing the Isle of Wight. Please respect what the local community has achieved in keeping infection rates low and help us to ensure that the Island will always be the place for people to enjoy.
“We hope that when planning your next staycation, you will choose the Wight way to travel”.
Councillor Dave Stewart, Leader of the Isle of Wight Council, adds:
“Being placed in Tier 1 will come as a huge relief to many businesses across the Island, who will now be able to reopen in time for the festive holiday season.
“This is also good news for the hospitality industry here on the Island, but we must remember that our priority must continue to be following the public health guidelines and ensuring we do not see a future spike in case numbers.
“Likewise, visitors to the Island must appreciate why we have a relatively lower rate of infection here than the rest of the country and help us to keep it that way.
“If you are coming to the Island at this time, we ask that you continue to be considerate and help us to protect everyone wanting to enjoy the Isle of Wight. That means wearing a face covering, maintaining social distancing and washing your hands regularly while you are here.
“Please do not travel from Tier 3 to the Island. Visitors from Tier 2 must also adhere to the tougher Tier 2 rules during their stay.
“Our special visitor charter sets out what we expect of our visitors – that you enjoy all that the Island has to offer but in the WIGHT way that respects our community and helps #KeepTheIslandSafe”.

More propaganda…….Each MP has been sent a briefing paper, authored by Clare Craig FRCPath,Jonathan Engler MBChB LLb and Dr Mike Yeadon PhD “PCR-based COVID testing has failed and is not a proper basis to lockdown the nation” They each have the info and a vote. They could end Lockdowns this week. But the govt are going to supply the ‘evidence’ proving lockdowns are worth it at the last minute, so MPs have no time to study or debate the material. This is an old trick. Govt and SAGE are more manipulative and disreputable than ever.
The point you are making is moot. It is for physicians and immunologists to argue out the merits of testing. I’m no expert and suggest that you aren’t either. We all agree the virus exists. It is the people who fail to abide by the measures in place to slow the spread, mask wearing, hand washing and social distancing, that really creates the problem. If everyone did so, lockdowns would be avoided in my view.
Well r i its obv the brainwashed gullable sheep thumbs down you! If done my research and what your sayjng is true.all load of bs out of date numbers fed too scare people via bbc1 mostly.sad you all believe what your told.same sadler who wear a mask out side in fresh air lol
99.9% survival rate is no pandemic! Death tolls are actually down from the last couple of years, so when you tell me to listen to an “expert” you can shove that opinion where the sun doesn’t shine 🙂 Open your eyes!
The whole country ‘should’ have been doing what they are requesting the visitors to now do, anyway, but clearly haven’t been.
When on holiday, people relax more, don’t care so much about a place they will be leaving in a few days, so IF people haven’t been adhering to the message at home, they certainly won’t whilst in a place they just ‘use’ for recreation.
Watch the ‘truth’ and REAL numbers infected be allowed to be said ‘once’ they have milked the wallets and purses dry over the Christmas and New year sales period.
So, by the second week in Jan, the TRUE rates will be given and shocking, and the lock down tightened.
Vote this council OUT next given chance.
Here we go again the elite people on the island that never ever get a flu virus! what a complete and utter load of nonsense! The population of the island is 66,000 and yet the figures for Covid are drawn on per 100,000 so how the hell can they measure that as the lost 34000 may have had the virus! the mainland has 70 million residents so you cannot compare! so stop this nonsense and stop controlling people you have no right to because at the end of the day although your tier is 1 you wont have anyone to visit your hotels and cafes! if you apply too many obstacles and treat everyone that visits as if they have the plague!
TKnonsense.
The Island has a population of 141,500.
NOT 66,000, unless we have been really lied to about current CV losses, which I think we would have noticed.
The whole point of self protection IS to treat everyone, friends, strangers and family ‘as if they have the plague’ NOT as an insult, but to prevent the easy mistake, of ‘just because you know’ someone, that they are ‘ok’ and safe, when anyone can catch or carry this virus.
People will come back and visit, as no matter how abrupt and unwelcoming we are deemed now, once this is over, then people will want to holiday here, (IF the council haven’t built it into some grid locked hell hole) and they only have a few choices of where to go for a holiday feeling of coming to ‘an Island’.
Vote this council out.
What are you talking about? No one is going to take any notice of you if you can’t even get simple facts right. The Island population is ~141,000.I’ll take a stab and guess you are a mainlander….And if you are coming over here soon, do what most people do, wear a mask, wash hands and keep distance.
Criky…more easier thumbing down.why! What you say is true.
Sheep arent facing up too the truth and real facts out there.even high up professors are sayjng no too lock down of healthy unaffected people
Here’s some ‘truth’ and ‘real’ numbers for you that you are probably not going to like 🙂
Average 99.9% survival rate
Worldwide deaths over 2015 to 2019 has fluctuated between 55 and 60 million.
So far in 2020 around 54-55 million deaths worldwide.
So how can there be such a major pandemic when currently the death toll is on track if not down from last year. Could one of your ‘experts’ explain that one for me please!
You cannot argue with “REAL” statistics! Unless you’re a brainwashed sheep apparently.
do not tell them enforce the rules policing the ferry points before they get on the ferries
OK Hitler
Going on holiday is not “essential travel”
It’s not just visitors to the Island we need to worry about, how about the irresponsible people planning to travel from the Island to Tier 3 areas over Christmas. Should they not be made to self isolate for two weeks on their return?
I am sure everyone will read this article and take note of it….before travelling down from the tier 3 areas Hahaha!
We only have a limited small hospital on the island and can’t afford to put it under any more pressure so please stay away
Pressure? What pressure exactly has our hospital been under? It’s dead down there, appointments cancelled, others delayed, and people still want to use the NHS as an excuse to do this! I’ve been to the hospital many times over the 2 lockdown periods and there has never been a person waiting in from of me and it has always been quiet as anything!
Dave Stewart said end of last week “When the time is right people will be able to come to the Island, probably now is not the time for that so we would therefore encourage people to stay local themselves..
a few days later ““If you are coming to the Island at this time, we ask that you continue to be considerate and help us to protect everyone wanting to enjoy the Isle of Wight. That means wearing a face covering, maintaining social distancing and washing your hands regularly while you are here.
“Please do not travel from Tier 3 to the Island. Visitors from Tier 2 must also adhere to the tougher Tier 2 rules during their stay.
Not exactly a consistent message and far from the one he should be giving ” if your visit is not an essential one or because you live or work here, then Stay at Home, we will open for business when safer to do so”
I can’t help but laugh at all the people that say we should stop entry and police the boats, thinking that the reason we are in tier 1 is because we followed the rules…. Ha! I clean high end holiday let’s and the summer just gone was one of the busiest we’ve had and yet we still have low numbers! Get your head out the sand and your ass off your high horses! The scaremongering propaganda clearly still gets to every one of you sheep!
THOSE WHO WOULD GIVE UP ESSENTIAL LIBERTY TO PURCHASE A LITTLE TEMPORARY SAFETY DESERVE NEITHER. – Benjamin Franklin
Stop thinking you have the right to tell others how they should live their own life!
Coming to your second/holiday home is not deemed as necessary travel !! But the ferry companies don’t have the guts or spineto check. They’ll just take the cash and rub their hands.
