Hovertravel welcomed members of the Shaping Portsmouth Ambassadors programme for an exclusive familiarisation visit designed to help showcase one of the city’s most iconic visitor experiences to cruise passengers arriving in Portsmouth.
On Tuesday 8th September, the group of ambassadors enjoyed an 8-minute hovercraft flight across the Solent before taking part in Hovertravel’s popular Behind the Scenes Tour in Ryde, led by one of the company’s experienced pilots.
The visit gave ambassadors a unique insight into the world’s longest-established commercial hovercraft operator, including how the aircraft operate, the engineering behind the service and the history of this distinctive mode of transport.
The familiarisation visit forms part of Hovertravel’s ongoing support for the Shaping Portsmouth Cruise Meet & Greet initiative, which sees trained volunteers welcome thousands of cruise passengers to the city each year. By experiencing Hovertravel first-hand, ambassadors will be better equipped to recommend the service and encourage visitors to include a trip across the Solent as part of their time in Portsmouth.
Ben Eyers, Partnerships and Business Development Executive at Hovertravel, said:
“The Portsmouth Ambassadors do a fantastic job of welcoming cruise visitors and sharing everything that makes Portsmouth such a special destination. By experiencing Hovertravel for themselves, they gain a real understanding of what makes travelling by hovercraft so unique, from the speed of the crossing to the fascinating engineering and operational expertise behind every flight.
“We’re delighted to support Shaping Portsmouth’s Cruise Meet & Greet programme and look forward to working with the ambassadors to help even more cruise passengers discover not only Portsmouth, but also the Isle of Wight. A hovercraft flight is an attraction in itself and offers visitors a memorable way to experience two incredible destinations during their stay.”
Hovertravel has long worked alongside organisations across the region to promote Portsmouth and the Isle of Wight as must-visit destinations. The company welcomes visitors from around the world every year, with the sub ten-minute crossing offering the fastest scheduled route between Portsmouth and the Isle of Wight.
