Ventnor Rugby Club recorded 3 wins from 6 matches as they continued their summer 7s campaign at Winchester on Sunday.
The Island side travelled to Hampshire for the annual Winchester RFU 7s Tournament, where they faced strong and experienced opposition in challenging conditions.
Almost constant rain and driving winds made for a difficult afternoon, but Ventnor acquitted themselves well in only their second-ever rugby 7s tournament, finishing with an encouraging return of 3 victories and 3 defeats.
Head coach Damien Marriott was full of praise for his players.
“A really positive day for Ventnor RFC 7s. The scoreline only tells part of the story.
“Considering this was only our second-ever 7s tournament, the improvement from tournament one was clear for everyone to see. The lads showed far better understanding of the game, worked harder for each other, and started to put into practice what we’ve been doing in training.
“There are still plenty of lessons to learn, but that’s exactly why we’re doing this. With 3 more tournaments to go this summer, it’s exciting to think where this group could be by August.
“Today’s performance was a promising step forward and another building block in our development.”
Ventnor’s next 7s tournament takes place in North Dorset on 25th June.
