Ventnor beat Brading in an entertaining game at Watcombe Bottom to reach the semi finals of the Island Echo Challenge Cup on Saturday (6th January). The game began with a minute’s silence to remember Niton footballer Ben McLoughlin, who sadly passed away. Ventnor began the game on the front foot with prolific striker Emerson Tattersall first hitting the post in the 6th minute before scoring from just inside the 6-yard box after some good work from Charlie Urry (1-0). Tattersall continued to be a thorn in the side of the Ventnor defence, striking the woodwork for a 2nd time in the 37th minute with a low shot. In the 39th minute, Sonny Mulholland doubled Ventnor’s lead with a long range effort (2-0) The Romans threatened little in the 1st half, apart from a Scott Lawson strike that forced Ventnor keeper Dan Russell to save at full stretch 5 minutes before the half time interval.

“It was great to start the new year with a win against a decent Brading side. The weather has meant a lot of stop starting this season, so it was good for the lads to get 90minutes. “Whoever we meet in the semi finals is going to be a tough test. Binstead, Bembridge and, of course, W&B are all strong sides.”

In the Hampshire Cups…
All 3 Isle of Wight’s sides in action on Saturday were knocked out by North Island opposition. In the Hants Trophy, West Wight drew away 1-1 to Hampshire League Harvest, with George Saunders scoring the 1st half goal for the Island side, before going down 4-3 on penalties. In the Hants Vase, Osborne Coburg suffered a narrow 1-0 defeat away to Bournemouth Poppies Development. Osborne Coburg Reserves were also beaten 0-3 by a Bournemouth Poppies Development side at Victoria Rec.
In the Island Leagues…
In the only game played in Harwoods Division 1, Shanklin overcame Vectis at Cowes Enterprise College with Ryan Hill scoring the only goal of the game. ECS Reserves have gone top of Combination 1 by beating closest rivals W&B 1-2 at Sandy Lane. Roland Bryan and Sam Turner were on target for ECS, with Luke Lambert scoring for W&B. In Combination 2, Seaview Reserves were relieved only to be beaten 9-0 by top-of-the-table Bembridge A. Earlier in the season, they had lost 19-0 to the same side.

In the ventnor game, if a player is sin-binned and then shown another yellow, i’m certain that is a sending off,
maybe the referee does not know the rules
“Black” and “sports” ie fart-box driven by a git. Roads are full of them night and day. Time the Police took a few off the road, or at least cracked down on the deliberately-noisy exhausts (they’d never pass a proper MOT, for example).
I live on a main road and during the summer those exhausts drive me sir crazy up and down all night long … police said keep a log … what a joke they are going 40/50 mph in 20 mph area
No Law and Order on the Island
Plod are only employed to protect the so called Elite, otherwise they
are not fit for purpose
Seems since compulsory seat belt wearing and the deployment of air bags in cars, we have ever more overturned car accidents.
Perhaps pain of injuries, or the fear of it and death made car drivers pre these safety measures, drive more cautiously.
Issue is now ‘they’ may well be safer but the pedestrians who only luck ’ prevented being injured are at more risk and any sentence given does not reflect that fact.
As we know luck’ runs out.
Perhaps we need airbags in clothing and stab protection if in inner cities
Another suicide jockey will be along soon.
Until Jordan and his Merry men attack speeding motorists
this sh*t will never end
“THERE ARE NO SPEEDING RULES ON THE ISLAND”
SPEED CAMERAS ISLANDWIDE WILL SOLVE THE PROBLEM
THE FINES WILL PAY FOR THE COST OF INSTALLING THE CAMERA’S!
Make the Island a safe place for everyone
Since when does a drugged up driver take note of a speed camera?
If speed cameras stop speeding how will there be any fine money to pay for the cameras
They don’t stop working
I was only doing 30 officer
Ok 31ish maybe 32.
This unbelivable more bad driving how is this possible on a straight bit of road i hope but i know wont happen he /she gets fully done ..but won’t happen..
Speeding is obviously the answer
Time to make the Island 20mph in many locations
Installation of speed Camera’s is the only deterrent to stop these
Speeding idiots!
Act now before someone gets killed!
Yeah sounds great. I’ll do 20 past your camera and speed up when i pass
How?? What is going on with some drivers? The poor home owners hope they are ok?
Drive it like you stole it no worries. My damage rating 7out of10 sweet. More soon please.
I think your mindless comment again on another driving report means your needle is stuck in the groove and your to p…. d to notice you sad sack…
Blown off the road at Windy Ridge. :->
I hope she gets a lengthy ban
Well that wasn’t 30 mph
How the hell did that happen speed maybe
Crashing your cars on a daily basis is one thing, now it’s not even safe sitting in your home…..More drugged up young lowlife will be along soon….
Don’t bother to comment – if you’re not one of IE’s favourite gammons you won’t get approved.
Can’t park there mate.
I wondered if someone would come up with this one. What a corker. Cracks me up every time ho ho ho
Just another day on the isle of the damned.
The driving on the island needs to seriously improve. Just the other week I had a BMW move out behind me looking to pass a parked vehicle, yet I could see a lorry coming so stopped to give way. BMW driver tried making out I was in the wrong. Hmm. Not only that but thinking and planning ahead seams to be non existent on the island, along with keeping a minimum distance from the vehicle Infront. With these accidents the insurance will increase as the island will be rated at a higher risk.
Forget planning ahead… Thinking just isn’t going to happen.
What is it with boomers rolling their cars over.
Last year a car went through the fencing that Windy Ridge own on the other side of the road and that vehicle would have ended up in the sea if a tree had not been there to stop it.
Just further on there have been cones and orange barriers at the end of Windy Ridge land. – was that another vehicle?
Not implying that is the cause here but every day you can witness vehicles speeding along Bouldnor Road.
Do you think so one has got it in for Windy Ridge? I think I should move if I lived there!
House jumped out in front of me…..wasn’t fault officer !
The first time the government was involved with a military operation
Can’t park there arrogant boy racer
Omg now this is getting so,serious now. These drivers are Half Wits. 20 is plenty and that road has always been dangerous especially the new lay out. Needs to have traffic lights there
Just proves the point that more traffic police are needed.
When was the last time a multi agency task force came over to the island?
DVLA, DVSA, Mainland Police?
Could even add our Council’s licensing department for taxi’s?
From what I can find October 2019. WOW
To me there seems to be a lower value of safety on the island compared to the mainland.
3rd rate County compared to every where else, out of site out of mind to the government departments.
The Community Speedwatch busybodies were only there yesterday. Sadly, they may have had a point.
Although car crashes are not a new phenomenon, I am astounded by how many now seem to end up with the car on its roof.
Did the home owners take matters in their own hands and admonish the driver?..
That is when plod would be interested
With a baseball bat?
4 morons all.chipping in for the insurance, will need more goons next time.
Maybe the three other occupants in the car can sue the driver for reckless driving, plus any injuries and trauma. Just a thought!
