Wight Tri member Liz Dunlop made her 12th World championships appearance for the Great Britain Age Group Team at the 2022 World Sprint Triathlon Championships in Montreal, Canada.
Veteran triathlete of 33 years, Liz finished 7th from 37 in the 65-69 age group. She was also 3rd GB athlete, which gives her automatic qualification into next year’s World Age Group Sprint Championships in Hamburg in July 2023.
The following day, Liz competed in the 60-69 age group team relay. Her GB team finished 9th out of 20 teams.
Liz said:
“Even though I’ve now competed for the Age Group GB team 21 times now over several years, (my first time in 1997) and have had some great performances, also achieving podium places in both Europeans and World Championships, every new event brings something different and more challenging.
“Montreal was a fantastic place to race; the racing from both age groupers and elite was intense; the atmosphere was electric, and the supporting crowds amazing. That’s what keeps me returning year after year!
“This year was made even more special when I witnessed my Wight Tri teammate Millie Williams win a silver medal in the 20-29 Age Group Team Relay and saw how much it meant to her too! So good to see that age is no barrier in the sport of triathlon! “
Liz unfortunately tested positive for Covid 19 on her return and will have to withdraw this weekend from Woodhorn standard triathlon but hopes to have recovered for the AG European Sprint Triathlon Championships in Munich on 14th August.
Liz has also qualified for the AG European Aquathlon and European Middle-Distance Championships in Bilbao in September and her season will culminate in the AG World Standard Triathlon Championships in Abu Dhabi.
