A total of 38 competitors took part in Wight Tri’s Spring Triathlon at West Wight Sports Centre on Sunday (12th April), facing wind, mud and testing conditions.
The event began with a 400m pool swim, followed by a 23.5km bike ride along Military Road and a 5km run towards the Causeway.
Blustery conditions made the cycle leg particularly challenging, with strong crosswinds testing riders’ balance and bike handling on the exposed coastal route.
Overnight rain also impacted the run, leaving sections of the course muddy and slippery underfoot, resulting in difficult footing for many competitors.
Despite the conditions, Chris Till produced the fastest performance of the day to take victory in the men’s event in a time of 1:05:13. Craig Wilson finished 2nd in 1:11:24, with James Heng completing the podium in 1:15:42.

In the women’s race, Jan Fletcher led the field to claim 1st place in 1:26:06. Claire Squirrell secured 2nd in 1:31:31, while Helen Scholes finished 3rd in 1:32:40.
The ‘Dream Team’ category was won by Michaela Heathcote (swim) and Ben Ade (bike and run), who combined to record a time of 1:25:40.
Craig Wilson also topped the nominated time standings, finishing within 20 seconds of his predicted time. Loic Le Floch was 25 seconds off his estimate, while Claire Squirrell and Aesha Ouiles were joint 3rd, both 31 seconds away.
The event concluded with a presentation at West Wight Sports Centre, where competitors and organisers reflected on another successful race in the Wight Tri calendar.
