The Sportsman’s Rest in Porchfield, which dates back to 1857, has re-opened its doors under new management.
It was in April this year that the pub failed to re-open for the season, sparking new fears for the future of the historic watering hole. It came following a series of different pub landlords in recent years and a number of closures and re-openings.
Now, Nikki Price and her daughter Tania have taken over the helm with the aim of getting the pub back to its former glory. Nikki has seen the many coming and goings at her local in recent years and has decided to step up to do something about it.
It was at the end of June that the mother and daughter duo got the keys and began work on bringing life back into the village pub.
Difficulties with restoring an electric supply have now been overcome following a 2-month battle, allowing the doors to be opened for eager punters. However, a limited bar is currently in operation due to the beer lines being removed.
No food is currently being offered, but plans are afoot to re-open the kitchen in due course.
Taking to social media, Nikki and Tania have said:
“We would like to thank all the people who have helped and supported us so far, it really means a lot!
“It’s been lovely to chat with those that have popped in and we look forward to meeting the rest of the community.
“We are still running a limited bar currently due to the beer lines having to be removed but we have a good selection of bottled ales and lager, plus a great pint of draught Guinness!”
The Sportsman’s Rest’s Facebook Page is back up and running here.
