10 months after closing its doors The Sportsman’s Rest in Porchfield has re-opened under new management.
It was in October last year that the pub, which had been run by Deborah and David for 4 years, ceased trading with the devastating impact of the COVID pandemic blamed. It was also noted that the building needed investment in terms of maintenance and structural repairs.
Now, drinkers and diners are once again being welcomed into the country pub which is under the helm of Duncan and Emma.
Patrons were invited back for the first time on Sunday (8th August) – exactly 10 months on from when the pub was last open – for what has been described as an ’emotional’ night.
The pub is now open between 11:00-23-:00 Sunday to Thursday and 11:00-00:00 on Fridays and Saturdays. Dogs are welcome.
From Monday 16th August, food favourites will be served alongside vegan, vegetarian and gluten-free options. This will initially be on a condensed menu to ease staff in and food will be available between 12:00-20:30.
Duncan and Emma say:
“Thank you to everyone who came out to show their support last night [Sunday], we were very emotional!
“We can’t wait to meet and serve all of our amazing customers in this lovely community”.

Good luck to the Sportsman’s Rest I wish them well. I will certainly go and visit to support the pub.
Looks like a proper country pub, not like the fly tipping zone we have in Wroxall. Come to the pub garden in Wroxall and enjoy the views of “a rubbish laden skip”, “Piles of old skanky palettes” and the worst of all “Dog S**t on the grass” Oh yes, it’s true.
