Islanders are being invited to sponsor a brick and have their name permanently displayed at Rotary Heartbeat House as part of a £750,000 renovation project aimed at improving accommodation for families of cardiac patients.
Southampton-based cardiac charity Heartbeat has launched its ‘Sponsor a Brick’ campaign to help fund major improvements to the House, which has supported families travelling from the Isle of Wight and across the South Coast for more than 30 years.
For £100, supporters can sponsor a brick and receive a limited-edition keepsake, with their name also featured on a dedicated Sponsor a Brick Appreciation Plaque.
The fundraising campaign will run until 31st December, giving supporters the opportunity to leave a lasting mark on the facility while contributing towards its future.
As previously reported by Island Echo in a special series examining the work of Heartbeat, the 24-bedroom accommodation on Tremona Road provides a home-from-home for relatives of patients receiving specialist cardiac treatment at Southampton General Hospital.
For Isle of Wight families, the House can be particularly important, removing the need for repeated journeys across the Solent while allowing them to remain close to loved ones during what can be an incredibly difficult time.
The £750,000 renovation project will see significant improvements to accessibility, inclusivity and comfort, including a new extension with additional accessible facilities.
Plans also include improved accommodation for those with mobility needs, dedicated remote working space, upgraded communal areas and better access to outdoor spaces, including an accessible terrace.
The improvements are intended to ensure the House can continue supporting families for years to come, with facilities suitable for a wider range of needs.
Those wishing to support the appeal have until 31st December 2026 to sponsor a brick.
