Troublesome 3-way traffic lights in Lake, that have caused several months of delays, have been removed today (Thursday) to the joy of Isle of Wight motorists.
The temporary lights have been in place at Lake High Street, causing significant travel disruption, since 3rd February.
As previously reported by Island Echo, Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary was called to Newport Road, Lake on 29th January after a white Ford Transit Connect collided head-on with the lights and fled the scene.
Island Echo understands that damage was caused to 2 traffic signal posts, which damaged cabling underground.
Island Roads attempted to safely operate the junction with just 1 of the 2 poles, but the decision was taken that this was not possible, resulting in the permanent signals being switched off.
Thankfully, after more than 2-months of disruption, the temporary signals have were removed earlier this afternoon and the usual lights reinstated.

A big thank you to all those workmen out there in all weathers, round the clock for the last few months, working endlessly at that busy junction. I saw you there so often it feels like we have made a special bond. I shall miss each and every one of you.
Hallelujah
Now the Numpty responsible for causing this issue
should have to pay for the damage and have their licence
permanently removed.
IT’S PUT THOUSANDS OF PEOPLE OUT FOR MONTHS!
