A technical issue onboard one of its vessels has seen Red Jet cancel 4 sailings on its hi-speed West Cowes – Southampton route this afternoon (Friday).
The 16:45 and 17:55 from Southampton and the 17:20 and 18:30 from West Cowes have all been cancelled.
These cancellations follow 2 cancellations that affected the cross-Solent operator earlier this afternoon.
Red Funnel has apologised for any inconvenience caused and says they are working to reduce delays as quickly as possible.

Can’t provide a reliable service but they can increase prices by up to 10% SHAME ON YOU RED FUNNEL. The Island people deserve better.
Shame on u cork head
Maybe you should move back to the mainland
Why is that then, and which Island people are you on about ?
Oh dear let’s hope they fix it soon and everyone gets away quickly on the journeys.
Change your name silly bollox !
Oh what a rotten bit of luck. This will one again impact more people who are incapable of adapting. Suck it up and deal with it.
Adapting to DICTATORSHIP…. really… ferry companies are stopping our freedom of travel. And what about those that HAVE to commute for work every day?? Not everyone wants to work on a check out… with ZERO hours contracts !!!
The answer is quite simple. Any company that runs an essential public service should have to keep one of their older ferries serviceable for any emergency, that can be fired up to be used at short notice.
That is exactly why they kept Red Jet 4!!
Frustrating as it is and whilst I have no doubt RJ4 is maintained to the same standard as 6 & 7, an older vessel will always have the potential to be less reliable, especially if it is laid up for days or even weeks on end when not required.
It is a PRIVATE SERVICE…. a customers service… NOT a Public Service. No care for the public.
This is just not good enough, it’s the Ferry and the Red Jets both using the same reasons for cancellations.
Is it that the maintenance crew are not competent in their jobs.
Is it another way of saving money by not running so many.
Or are they making some political point.
People have to plan onward travel, for Work, Other travel connections, Hospital appointments, Treatments schedules etc. these people don’t need any more stress in their lives.
We need another option to get to the mainland.
They clearly are incompetent; nothing breaks down that often, we are not so gullible that we haven’t worked out what they are doing.
BUILD A BRIDGE and shut them down.
Yeah cos that worked so well the last time some cowboy made off with everyone’s money
Bridge would be just as bad… we need a TUNNEL….
You obviously don’t have a boat that’s used fairly constantly
Come on council, build a tunnel… I would love to do a quick visit on some elderly relatives on Christmas day… instead of being imprisoned here, being dictated to as to when one can cross to mainland !!
