A motorcyclist who sustained head and chest injuries in last night’s crash between Apse Heath and Lake will appear in court later this year.
As first reported by Island Echo, Police were called to Newport Road, between Raj’s Premier and Morrisons supermarket, at 21:59 last night (Thursday).
The road was closed in both directions whilst paramedics from the Isle of Wight Ambulance Service and doctors from the Hampshire & Isle of Wight Air Ambulance tended to the injured motorcyclist.
Hampshire Constabulary has confirmed this morning that no other vehicle was involved in the incident and that the rider – a male in his 30s – suffered injuries to his head and ribs.
It has also been confirmed that the male has been reported for summons for failing to provide a specimen for analysis, having been suspected of driving whilst impaired through drink or drugs.
The road re-opened during the early hours of this morning.

I should imagine trying to blow into a breathalyser with rib damage would be rather painful, I too would be telling the over enthusiastic constable where to go.
He could have given a blood sample…I don’t care about his condition, because he could have killed innocent people….
Far too many drugged or drunk drivers on our roads…..and you all know who you are, and you don’t give a dam…
I thought that was standard procedure on arrival at the hospital emergency department
Would imagine he probably wasn’t thinking too clearly with head injuries either…
Absolutely, a good lawyer would easily argue that point.
It would seem that the armchair magistrates have already found him guilty, so no need for it to go to court.
Then I would in his case throw you in jail
Your obviously so angry, your ability to comment rationally and coherently is impaired Lol:)
Specimen for analysis isn’t just breathing into a machine, if incapable they need to be willing to supply others either blood or urine.
See not always the fault of a driver in a car with a motor cyclist, whilst he may have had difficulty giving a breathalyser test, he should have offered to give a blood test instead.
but he knew he was over the limit… thought he could get away with it..
It’s about time these idiot drivers who cause accidents through intoxication/reckless driving should be made to pay the full cost of the emergency services attending
They need to be able to dish out higher fines and longer bans for drink and drug drivers.. and those that crash more than once every five years !!
We are getting to the point where police ‘stop and test’ checks will be required on all drivers.
