PHOTOS AND VIDEO: Local charities are set to benefit from monies raised during Bestival Ryde Slide, which returned to the seaside town of Ryde in glorious sunshine and year-high temperatures yesterday (Sunday).
With the thermometer reaching around 24c Islanders were making the most of the cold water and sea breeze as they whizzed down Union Street. Each rider donated into a raffle system to secure their go on the slide, or purchased a ticket on the day for £10.
Isle of Wight Council leader Cllr Jonathan Bacon was the first person to ride the slide, followed by the likes of Cllr Henry Adams, Ryde’s very own carnival queens (pictured right) and even firefighters from Ryde Fire Station, who were giving riders a little helping hand if they needed it whilst also providing plenty of water to keep things extra cool.
The event was once again raising funds for local charities Aspire; Ryde Inshore Rescue; Wight Brainy Bunch; Waterside Pool and Ryde Arena.
Live music kept the party atmosphere going all day with proceedings coming to an end at 18:00.
