Southern Housing is continuing its mission to make homes and communities on the Isle of Wight more eco-friendly.
The housing provider held a Sustainability Revolution event on the Isle of Wight on 11th and 12th September at The Riverside Centre in Newport, The Memorial Hall in Freshwater and Shanklin FC’s County Ground in Shanklin.
In a series of workshops held over 2 days, Southern Housing’s dedicated Sustainability Team met with local residents, MPs and community members. Southern Housing discussed how changes to homes such as insulation, ventilation and local biodiversity projects will contribute to a greener future and even save residents money on their bills.
Participants were treated to games, crafts, energy advice and support as well as being able to look around a home that is energy efficient with a futuristic virtual tour.
Jo Butterfield, Sustainability Engagement Lead at Southern Housing said:
“It’s been a pleasure to meet residents on the Isle of Wight and talk to them about how we’re helping make communities more eco- friendly.
It’s so important we continue to manage our homes with the environment in mind. And residents joining forces with us to do just this is a driving force that will push us to a better, greener future.”
Southern Housing achieved a SHIFT Gold Award earlier in the year and remain on track to have 75% of their homes at least EPC Band C by 2025.
SHIFT Gold is an award presented by the Sustainable Homes Index for Tomorrow and demonstrates an organisations dedication to improving their environmental impact.
Southern Housing, who manage 3,690 homes on the Isle of Wight along with 504 green spaces, have set out their ambition to achieve net zero by 2050.
