Shanklin has received the Silver Gilt Award from South East England in Bloom for the floral displays and natural environment of the town.
The award was picked up by Shanklin’s Town Mayor, Steve Knight, Mayoress and Green Town Volunteer Esther Knight, and Deputy Mayor Denyse Larner.
Steve said:
“The award is a reflection on the efforts of all volunteers across the Town, especially during the Covid crisis, and I’d like to thank all involved in the continuing quality and high standards of the gardens and greenery of Shanklin”
Esther added:
“Green Town Volunteers, and other local groups, maintain the War Memorial, New Library, Tower Cottage Gardens, and other locations, and the Judges commended the work of all that make a difference to their neighbourhoods for residents and visitors alike.”
The Town Council fund hanging baskets, town square flower troughs, grounds maintenance at Big Mead, Tower Cottage, the County Ground, and other locations, as well as supports local groups with environmental aims.
Denyse concluded:
“We are grateful for the efforts of residents, local businesses and all involved enabling to secure national recognition, and thanks to Esther, and colleagues, we are introducing new planters outside the library and other locations”
