Shanklin’s changing face over the past 200 years will be explored at a free open day exhibition later this month.
Shanklin & District History Society is holding the event at Falcon Cross Hall, on Falcon Cross Road, on Saturday 23rd May between 10:00 and 15:00.
This year’s exhibition will celebrate ‘Shanklin Over 200 Years’, with old photographs and illustrations from the S&DHS Archive on display, alongside thousands more images available to browse in themed albums.
Visitors will also be able to see models of buses, coaches, Shanklin Old Village and the old church at Bonchurch, created by motor transport expert Terry Jones.
There will be a display from the Commonwealth War Graves Commission, spotlighting casualties from Shanklin, with Garry Newman on hand to conduct searches and answer any questions.
Other exhibits will cover Civil Defence from World War II into the Cold War, while old maps and directories will give visitors the chance to explore who once lived in their house.
Local history books will also be available to buy.
The free open day exhibition takes place at Falcon Cross Hall, 6-8 Falcon Cross Road, Shanklin PO37 7LA.
