17-year-old Ross Holme smashed his first Half Marathon in a sub 1hr 30min time in Southampton on Sunday, whilst raising vital funds for local charity The Wight Brainy Bunch.
Ross, from Ryde, who has been running for around 4 years with the Wootton Bridge Runners, has become stronger and faster and decided recently to train for a Half Marathon. The A level Brockenhurst College student has fitted in training runs in the evenings and at weekends, following a plan to gain strength and pace.
Coming in as 34th finisher and 1st Island runner, as well as gaining a PB by over 30 minutes, Ross has surpassed all his expectations.
Speaking after the race, he said:
“I liked the course; I felt comfortable and kept to the pace I was hoping to. As a Saints fan, I’ve always wanted to run through St Mary’s stadium, and today I got to do that and achieve positions I didn’t expect to”
For Ross, the weekend event was not only about the running, it was also to raise funds for a much needed charity on the Island.
Wight Brainy Bunch’s Mark and Kathryn Grimes said:
“Awesome Time Ross. Well done and a massive Thank you for representing our little charity once again”
