The Coronavirus Response appeal, a joint initiative launched by Aspire and Ryde Town Council, has raised over £2,500 to date – and the next £1,000 of donations made in April will be doubled by a generous Ryde resident.
The phenomenal response to the appeal means that crisis grants of up to £500 are now being awarded to community organisations (charities and nonprofits) in Ryde which have been financially hit by recent events. The grants are intended to help community organisations hit by the crisis to survive.
The first round of applications is open until midday on Monday 27th April, with application forms available at rydeunite.org.uk – a new website celebrating Ryde’s community spirit.
Trevor Nicholas, CEO of Aspire, says:
“An incredibly generous donation of £300 from the Vectensian Lodge of Freemasons took the fund over the £2,500 mark this week but I really want to thank everyone who has been so generous”.
Ryde’s Mayor, Cllr Michael Lilley has also welcomed the £1,000 match funding pledge, saying:
“Ryde is home to some amazing community organisations but the coronavirus crisis has hit many of them hard, with demand rising and income decreasing dramatically. Every pound given to the appeal will help ensure they’ll still be around when the crisis is over and this latest boost means every donation will go even further.”
