A 5th man has been charged with an immigration offence following an incident that saw a large number of people smuggled to the Island on a boat back in March 2020.
Robbie Hounsham, 54, of Ashey Road, Ryde, was charged via postal requisition yesterday (Wednesday 9th November) with conspiracy to facilitate the unlawful entry and/or attempted entry into the UK of non-EU citizens.
It is alleged the offences occurred between 1st January 2020 and 30th June 2020.
The charge is in connection with an incident in which a yacht returned to East Cowes Marina in Hampshire on 19th March 2020 with 12 additional people on board who were suspected of being migrants entering the UK illegally.
Hounsham is due to appear at Newport Magistrates’ Court on 29th November.
