The first batch of mince pies have been baked at The Co-operative in Ryde this week, ready to be donated to Mounbatten’s Light up a Life Service.
Head baker Marti Burnand has been busy baking at the West Street store and began making the first batch of the 400 mince pies that will be donated to the hospice, on Thursday.
The mammoth task will need to be finished by Sunday (4th December) when the special event is to be held.
Refreshments, including the mince pies, will be available in the Mountbatten Café.
This donation is just one of many taking place across Southern Co-op’s retail and funeralcare branches this winter helping schools, community groups and voluntary associations.
Other activities have included stores across west Hampshire taking part in Wave 105’s Mission Christmas with collection points and £1,000 worth of gifts donated for children to open on Christmas day.

Marti have you changed shops? Could have sworn you worked at Southern Co-operative West St Ryde. Or have the Island Echo messed up again?
A ‘mammoth’ task seems a bit of an exaggeration..
