
Ryde C’s Alex Rorke grabbed a hat-trick of wins including beating the reigning league champion as his team moved up the league in division 1 of the Island’s winter table tennis league last week.

The closest match this week was a Ryde Derby between the B and C teams. The C team’s Alex Rorke was in fine form winning all 3 of his games, including against current League singles champion Hugh Idle in 4 sets. The B team’s junior player Joseph Chapman had a great night with 2 wins against Tim Giles and Bryce Wilson. Ryde C took the match 6-4 after a doubles win by Rorke and Giles against Idle and team mate Ricky Lock.
Havenstreet A met Newport Vics A in a close match, with Havenstreet’s Roger Hookey player of the match, who completed a hat trick of wins, with Newport’s Anna Joyce taking him to 5 sets. Hookey and team mate Keith Baker also had a 5 set victory in the doubles against Joyce and Dave Hilliam to take the match 7-3 and go into 2nd place 8 points behind Ryde A.

Ryde Rascals took on Ryde Wight Knights and had a strong win, 7-3, with John Featherstone player of the match, whilst team mates Brian Voller and Stephen Gibbons were also in good form. The Rascals now lie in 2nd place 9 points behind Newport Vics B.
Newport Vics C were involved in another long match this week, this time against Ryde Rockets, which ended in a draw after a thrilling doubles match decided on deuce in the 5th set.

St Lawrence Lizards extended their lead at the top of Division 3 to 10 points, after their 9-1 win over Ryde Rustics. Ryde Retailers had an equally good win against Ryde Apprentices, with player of the match the Retailer’s 11 year old Jai Lock.
