The fine china was out last week as homeowners and staff at McCarthy and Stone’s Silver Sands Court development in Bembridge and Somers Brook Court development in Newport welcomed local people to their vintage-inspired tea party, to raise money for the older people’s charity Royal Voluntary Service.
Guests took a trip back in time as they tucked into tasty treats including tea and cucumber sandwiches, as well as homemade cakes and scones. Influenced by legendary vocalists from the past, ‘Dave B’ delighted guests at Silver Sands Court covering Rock ‘n’ Roll, Pop and R&B hits from the 50s and 60s. Local vicar Dr Amanda Bloor from the Diocese of Portsmouth also attended the event to plant a Handkerchief tree in the grounds of the development as a celebration of McCarthy and Stone’s 40th anniversary.
In total, the special events raised helped McCarthy and Stone to raise a fantastic £438 for Royal Voluntary Service. To mark its 40th year, McCarthy and Stone is partnering with Royal Voluntary Service on a series of events in 2017, with the aim of raising over £130,000 in support of projects across the Isle of Wight, and the rest of the country.
Ellen Joiner House Manager at Somers Brook Court, who helped organise the event said:
“Our vintage tea party was a great success and everyone who attended had a fantastic time. It was really rewarding to see so many new faces from the community come together to fundraise on behalf of Royal Voluntary Service, and I’m really proud of all our efforts!”
