Festival-goers will this year ride iconic red London buses during the Isle of Wight Festival.
Usually, mainland buses would come over to operate services to and from the festival site, but there is a lack of spares this year due to Go-Ahead-owned Bluestar taking over First Bus’s previous services in Southampton and Go-Ahead owned More Bus taking over Yellow Coaches’ previous services in Dorset.
So instead, classic London red buses have been borrowed from the Capital by Southern Vectis to keep revellers on the move.
The news will be welcomed by bus enthusiasts and comes hot on the heels of the Rydabus event this weekend. Like London buses, you wait ages for an exciting bus story and then 2 come along at once!

Likely already have drugs and weapons stashed on board. Save a certain type having to supply their own.
Sad state of affairs when the hired ‘security’ are a ‘big’ part of the supply ring.
Still the old adage is true, ‘you pay peanuts and get …….’
Wonderful, even more pollution, not very green is it. Thought the festival were boasting how green they were.
Who knows? Electric buses & hybrids abound in London. It’ll be nice to see big red buses in service on the island & bus tickers will be happy. Nice
The only thing green about The Island is the grass.
You make it sound like London buses aren’t from the mainland??!!
Are they going to rip us off like Vectis buses do ?…. Or is it still going to be cheaper to get a taxi
Yes agreed Neil the Southern Vectis 100% mud tax, let the great rip-off begin
I assume that you have never actually used a taxi on the island. They are very expensive. The buses are great value, reliable, and better for the environment. I got rid of my car and use them instead. Saves me a fortune.
They are at present with the £2 fare arranged and funded by Government to get people using them but prior to this they were very expensive as are the Taxi companies.
Blimey must be getting old, doesn’t look like the old London Buses I was expecting.
