Red Funnel has suspended their Red Jet service between Cowes and Southampton this morning (Monday).
It is the third day the cross-Solent service has been disrupted by adverse weather. The service was also affected by mechanical breakdowns towards the end of last week.
An update is expected at 10:00.
All other travel operators are running to timetable today.
UPDATE @ 08:57 – The Red Jet will resume a timetabled operation at 09:45 from Southampton and 10:15 from West Cowes.

This is getting silly now I’ve just started a job in Southampton and already the company are saying if I’m struggling to get there then I might have to leave only been there for 2 weeks
Tiny, may have to move ‘over there then’, this sounds like a ‘lets have a fixed link’ because of people like me ‘bait’.
They do have houses to buy, rent over ‘there’ I believe if you need that job so badly. They ‘do’ have jobs here too. People manage to come half way across Europe and further and find work here, still eat, have children, live in homes, drive cars etc.
Real islander don’t want a fixed link, just so a few can have their cake (higher wages) and eat it too, (have cheaper homes, and a pleasant environment in which to live).
The Island can sustain itself BY being in the unique position OF being an Island on the Southern end of the UK. Many people and children love the ‘thrill’ of coming here knowing that they are coming to ‘an island.
Islands ALWAYS have a ‘pull’ to people. Hence those who dream about ‘winning the lottery’ oft say, “I would buy a tropical Island”, NOT ” I will live on a tropical mainland coast location”.
Whilst not tropical, as our planet warms, we will be well positioned to gain from an increase in both stay at home vacations and those wishing to escape the unpleasant temperatures abroad. Hot tubs on many holiday parks, have increased the season too whist we await such changes.
Naïve people just want the best of both worlds, not ‘understanding’ that to ‘gain’ one way, will mean great loss in another. IF, it were just ‘you’ losing out, then fine, happy for that to happen, but it won’t be, it will be all real Islanders and those content to live with less houses, more countryside, less cars, quirky roads, less troublesome newcomers, less crime, and just enjoying the ‘feeling’ and yes, the limitations of living on an Island.
Sorry if I read wrongly ‘between the lines’, and know it is frustrating in this unusual weather, but ‘comes with the place’ as would traffic jams if living in London, and far far worse nowadays.
Think yourself lucky.
Real islanders do want a fixed link, because I’m one of them. Just because selfish, backward people like you who it does not affect, because you probably never leave the island or town you live in!
@Ken
resorting to insults loses you the argument and anyhow, the majority of us real islanders do not want a fixed link – we like the fact that a steady stream of people who live in caravans cannot just turn up en masse and park in tesco’s car park and then simply live there.
we like the natural filters the ferries provide – you do not see significant numbers arriving on the island who are homeless and skint – as they cannot pay the ferry fare. Yes there are people here who are struggling, however, at least they have a chance of help and not swamped by others arriving.
we like the fact that island life is slower and the cost of living is lower.
if you want mainland life – go live there.
One of the few I’m afraid! I leave the island all the time but still prefer to chance the ferries than have too many coming here. Our infrastructure cannot deal with it. The island struggles already with how many live here. It will only get worse.
We are unique.. like it or leave
Sorry to hear that Tiny. But something to ask yourself is that if the company can’t understand that ferries are being affected by severe weather conditions, is it the sort of company you want to work for. You’re not the only person having trouble getting across the Solent. A job isn’t just about does the employee suit the company, but does the company suit the employee.
Keep donating to the tunnel fixed link viability study, or this will just continue https://solentfreedomtunnel.co.uk/the-sft-viability-study-by-arup/
@ken – ha ha ha -give it up = feeney and his tunnel friends have been touting for cash for their viability study for four years or more and as at 15/10/19 they still needed another £99,500 out of the £130k amount required by ARUP – the company that said they would do the study for £130k – that doesn’t even get a spade in the ground – just a lot of freeloaders paying their selves wages out of the £130k to stand around and talk about tunnels.
if so many islanders wanted a saline drip to the mainland uk for skint undesirables to turn up, then they would have raised £130k ages ago. After all, it is about £1 per islander.
It’ll never happen
