Passengers on the crossing of a Red Funnel Ferry from Southampton were in for a surprise when a troupe of historical ‘pirate’ reenactors boarded ship on Monday (7th August).
The reenactors were en route to Carisbrooke Castle for English Heritage’s ‘Pirates!’ event which is taking place until Thursday (9th August) and were spotted meeting with passengers, enjoying the ferry’s facilities and even climbing up to the bridge to meet with the captain.
For locals and holidaymakers setting sail to the Isle of Wight, the ‘Pirates!’ event promises epic fights between history’s most famous pirates, tales of the high seas and live period music.
There are also demonstrations and hands-on activities for all the family to enjoy.
Tickets and full details for all of Carisbrooke Castle’s summer events can be found at https://www.english-heritage.org.uk/visit/places/carisbrooke-castle/.

And there was me thinking that Wightlink had sent over a delegation to see how Red Funnel plundered its part of the Solent
If only they had taken the ferry and proceeded to operate it as a free service. No bigger pirates than those that own Wightlink at present.
Shareholder outing, was it?
Carisbrooke Castle donkey’s and those of us with pets having to listen to the pretendy pirates letting off what sounds like bombs!!! No warnings were given to us in order to prepare our animals for this – bloody joke! Sooner it’s over the better.
You might want to keep quiet or the pirates will keelhaul you.
This is a joke, yes? The pirates are already on board Red Funnel.
They were there to work out how much to charge for tickets in the next price hike
