Read Easy, a charity that helps adults with reading difficulties, is looking to set up a new group here on the Isle of Wight.
Read Easy provides free, confidential 1-to-1 help for adults (known as Readers) who struggle with reading.
The team over at Read Easy Southampton are looking to set up a small group in Ryde, with a view to expanding the service across the Island, but they need your help.
They are looking for volunteers from the Ryde area to join the team and take on specific roles including Literacy Specialist, Fundraiser, Volunteer Recruiter, and are particularly interested to hear from anybody who would like to be a Coach.
Coaches don’t need any special qualifications and receive full training over Zoom. They are introduced to their Reader by a Coordinator and then meet with them for 30 minutes, twice a week, to provide one-to-one help using a phonics-based teaching programme.
A spokesperson from Read Easy has said:
“If you can spare just 1-2 hours per week to potentially change the life of a person on the Island, we’d love to hear from you. We already have some amazing coaches in Southampton who are making a real difference.”
To find out more, join others at the information session at Ryde Library on Thursday 27th April, from 14:00-16:30, where you will have the opportunity to meet members of the team, find out more about the roles available. Alternatively, visit their website for further details.
