Concerned residents of the Ryde East area of Elmfield are holding a public meeting this Friday (17th June) to inform people about a recently submitted planning application to build on land that is part of Westridge Farm.
An application has been submitted to the Isle of Wight Council by landowner Arnbrow Ltd (Mr Robert Ball) for 80 dwellings on farmland situated off Circular Road. The application details individually designed properties with driveways and garages for the area of Westridge Farm, one of the last 10 working dairy farms on the Isle of Wight.
Local residents have called the meeting to discuss the planning application and it’s the implications for the communities of Ryde, Nettlestone and Seaview. The meeting will be an opportunity for the community to raise concerns and for people to learn how best to effectively comment on the planning application.
Janet Julian of the Save Westridge Farm group says:
“The plans for 904 dwellings on the green fields of Pennyfeathers were approved in 2015, however this current development proposes another 80 houses on working farm land just 5 minutes walk away from Pennyfeathers. The land that Westridge Farm occupies in its’ entirety is greater than the Pennyfeathers land and there are grave concerns for the future of the farm if this application is passed.
“We are concerned over the ongoing destruction of our rural spaces and for people’s livelihoods and well-being”.
The meeting is due to take place at Aspire on Dover Street, Ryde at 19:00 this coming Friday (17th June).
