Firefighters from stations across the Isle of Wight are tackling a property blaze on a residential road in Bembridge this afternoon (Friday).
Crews from Ryde, Newport and Shanklin were called to Nightingale Close in Bembridge at around 11:15 this morning following reports of smoke at the property.
Joining them on-scene were resources from Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary and the Isle of Wight Ambulance Service.
Firefighters used hose reel jets and main jets to tackle the fire, which involved the first floor and roof space, and is now mainly out. At this time, it is unclear as to whether any injuries have been sustained.
Crews remain on scene as they ensure the fire is fully out, damp down and clear smoke.
Nightingale Close is currently blocked to all traffic.

UPDATE @ 13:30 – Most appliances present are beginning to stand down from the incident.
A cordon remains in place whilst investigations into the blaze continue.

I would like to know how long it took the first fire fighting appliance to arrive on scene and also how long would it have taken a local appliance to attend? I will never understand why this fire and rescue station is being close. It and it’s firefighters over the years have served Bembridge with Pride and professionalism and bravery. I can remember as just a nipper that there was a Fire Station in the centre of the village, so I am now 77 so it must have been serving the community for over 70 plus years and I say with great pride that I was a fire fighter on that station in the late 1960s.
