Police are in attendance at a road traffic collision between a car and a cyclist in Newport this morning (Sunday).
The incident has occurred on Halberry Lane at the junction with Fairlee Road.
A Dacia Sandero has turned right into the road and has collided with the cyclist, whose bicycle has become wedged under the front of the car.
The extent of any injuries sustained by the cyclist is unknown at this time, but they are not thought to be life-threatening or life-changing.
The road is currently closed between Harvey Road and Fairlee Road.
UPDATE @ 14:10 – It has been confirmed that a 47-year-old man from Newport has been taken to hospital where he is being treated for his injuries.
He hit the car windscreen in the collision.

Another brilliant driver, not looking where going…
why didn’t the cyclist divert to the pavement, instead of veering onto the side of the road that the car was turning into, as that looks like a very slow speed impact due to the lack of skid marks from the bike.
Isle of Wight et you would need good eye sight to see bike skid marks
What are you gibbering on about?
Well, we don’t know exactly what happened during the event, so speculating on what caused it using the position of the bike as ‘evidence’ is unhelpful. I think any road user would take evasive actions if they possibly could. Lets hope all involved are not badly affected.
deduction clearly not your specialty alan is it.
the facts are laid before your eyes and yet you still cant see it – the position of the bike is actually the most crucial piece of evidence. it tells you so much – no wonder you and others post such drivel, if you are not even able to see what is before your eyes in the picture.
Footpaths are for pedestrians, not bicycles!
jeez sam – clearly not the sharpest are you – if a car turns right into your direction of travel, then you turning towards the pavement on your bike, means you will be heading towards the rear of the car and not the front of it. riding onto the pavement, would have ensured that the cyclist would have easily went around the back of the car and avoided hitting the front of it.
i always thought it was illegal for cyclists to ride on the pavements…they are for pedestrians only
ms hardy – are you actually for real – you are perfectly within your rights to use a pavement in an emergency to avoid colliding with a car, rather than remain on the road and hit the car. use a bit of common sense will you.
is the cycle path along fairlee not also a footpath?
More bad driving on the IW
Is that the cyclist or the car driver as it doesn’t mention whose at fault. In the meantime hope the cyclist makes a speedy recovery.
Don’t you mean more bad cycling!
There’s actually blood on the road..
you sound surprised after all the cyclist did hit a car what did you expect?
I was cycling today on my Dutch grandpa bike and stopped to allow pedestrians pass waiting on a junction, as per new road rules. Some dad with a stroller. And I got beeped on by a car behind, lol.
Then driver casually missed me by an inch overtaking through a completely striped-painted triangle.
And here I hear it is cyclists who should have mandatory driving licenses. It seems they don’t work so well, do they, eh?
With all seriousness I bought a phone stand and I’m driving from today filming all the time. There clearly were some mistakes allowing certain people to operate dangerous 2-3t machines.
Anybody know where you can upload evidence to police. so we can make roads safer for both good drivers and vulnerable road users?
You can upload to police via the Hampshire and Isle of Wight website, it is a bit fiddly and don’t expect too much as they seem to have little interest unlike most mainland forces.
For anyone interested, you can report dangerous driving videos to Hampshire Police “Hants Snap” programme. Just Google it and you’ll get a page with a form.
For a cheaply built car, that dacia held up well;)
Not a clever comment
The more you hate it, the more I like it 🙂
The Sandero (and Dacia in general) have excellent reliability stats and are usually in the top 10 marques for reliability.
They also score higher than their Renault parent, despite using Renault (Tce and Sce) engines.
Just ban cyclists from the road and this will never happen! Simple really. Lol
Does that go for tractors, horse and riders?
All cyclists should be banned form the roads.
Not going to happen any more than knuckle dragging trolls (you) are going to be banned from 3rd rate local rag sites.
Agreed. These sites could be better used co-operating with each other rather than slating everyone.
By the way, does anyone have “Fly Fishing” by J R Hartley? I’m asking for a friend…
