Residents have been evacuated from an assisted living residence in Ryde after a fire broke out this morning (Monday).
Pumping appliances from Newport, Ryde and Shanklin are in attendance on Appley Rise having been called at around 10:15.
Firefighters equipped in breathing apparatus have entered Newton Lodge – an assisted living residence – to tackle the blaze which is understood to have broken out on the first floor.
The majority of residents have been evacuated, with others – some with learning difficulties – have been helped from the property by firefighters.
Thankfully, the blaze was quickly brought under control.
A pair of hose-reel jets have been used in the firefighting efforts, with positive pressure ventilation being used to rid the premises of any lingering smoke.
Cordons have been erected on Appley Rise whilst the incident is being dealt with.
Appley Rise and Ampthill Road are blocked.
