Firefighters from the Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service have helped free a person stuck in the mud near Havenstreet this afternoon (Saturday).
Crews from Ryde and Newport – including 2 specialist rescue units – were called to Rowlands Lane, between the Downs Road and Strowdwood Lane, shortly before 14:30.
Ladders have been used as a solid platform to help free the individual, who had got into bother whilst walking along a footpath across a boggy field.
The Isle of Wight Ambulance Service are now on scene with an officer assessing the casualty, who is thought to be cold and wet but otherwise uninjured. Fire crews are preparing to stand down.
Aerial photographs captured by Island Echo show the muddy conditions of the field, which fire crews had to safety cross before reaching the casualty.

‘Nine mens Morris is filled up with mud’
Not very embarrassing is it. At least it is a beautiful day.
If your going to call the rescue services for getting stuck in the mud stick to the pavements.
Have you ever been stuck in mud? People (including farmers who know their mud) have died after being stuck in mud. It can be hard to know until it happens that you are going to get stuck.
It sounds all funny to some n all that but it’s not realy end of the day you could get hyperthermia in that mud, they could of been week from trying to get up once the body gets cold enough any one would loose there strength..
AND, REALLY, WEEK, LOSE, THEIR.
Even I can’t spell WEAK!!!
Everyone understands Alan’s comment, there is absolutely no need to try and embarrass him by picking up on his spelling. It just says way more about you as a person than him.
Don’t be unkind. He is probably an Islander.
In a field between Stroudwood Road and the Downs Road, that’s narrowed it down then! Grid reference maybe?
It quite clearly says in the report that it was Rowlands Lane.

Getting stuck in mud is no laughing matter. It happened to me near to the end of the pier at Weston-super-Mare a few years back. Up to my knees it was – I could barely move.
Worst of all, although it clung to my jeans like mud, and it certainly looked liked mud, turned out it wasn’t mud.
At least you weren’t in danger from the tide, as it is well known that no one has ever seen the tide in at Weston.
If it looks muddy or wet (puddles/flooded) walk round it not through it – simples!
Someone stuck in the mud on the Isle of Wight?? Surely not… 😉
Why go across a wet field in the1st place should of turned around and went back
The poor guy got stuck in the mud.. well, anyone would prefer to be out for a walk
What a waste of resources.
Surely any plonker can see that the conditions were poor to walk in.
Bet he came from Sandown.
Was it Warrick Davis that was stuck?
