An Isle of Wight youngster has had his dreams of being a police officer come true thanks to the work of a team of emergency service personnel.
4-year-old Freddie has had an obsession with the boys and girls in blue for a long time and has always hoped to be able to meet them in the flesh. His very own ‘police car’ is a regular sight for motorists heading into Newport via Staplers, as it is usually parked on the grass near to the entrance to Pan Meadows.
Thanks to the efforts of PC Dan Whiting, Freddie received an invite to visit Newport police station with his mum, Hayley. Not only did Freddie get to meet E-shift, but he also got to sit in a real police car, use its siren, and ‘arrest’ his mum before slamming the cell door shut in the back of a police van.
The day of Freddie’s dreams was first imagined when photos of his pedal car were uploaded to Facebook, and Hampshire Constabulary officers decided to lead the efforts to provide him with a blue-light experience.
Freddie, who lives with autism, was also presented with his very own ‘PC Freddie’ hoodie, bag, and drinks bottle to take home as a keepsake thanks to PC Whiting’s partner Samantha who runs a business making customized items.
So, keep a lookout, PC Freddie might be pulling you over at the top of Staplers – although he won’t have a blue light and a siren of his own. Not yet, anyway…

Brilliant, I see that little police car everyday what a great story!
Hope you had a lovely time PC Freddy. To sit in a Police car and turn the sirens and lights on, WOW!!!! And then you got to arrest Mummy……..another WOW.
Sounds like a typical island copper to me! (Well done fella)
I bet he still has a huge smile on his face
Well done all for making this kids dream come true.
