A child has been rescued by a swimmer after being swept out to sea on a paddleboard at Seagrove Bay near Seaview this afternoon (Thursday).
Bembridge RNLI were tasked for an immediate launch at around 16:35 after a member of the public called 999 and asked for the Coastguard.
The volunteer lifeboat crew made best speed to the scene alongside colleagues from Bembridge Coastguard Rescue Team.
Thankfully, it was quickly established that the child was safely back on the shore after being rescued by a swimmer. It’s understood the youngster had been taken by the wind and was out of his depth when he started shouting for help.
A spokesperson for Bembridge CRT has issued a reminder to those heading to the seaside this half term:
”Anyone visiting our shores this week and throughout the summer season should be aware of offshore winds and tides which can quickly carry a paddleboard, dinghy or other inflatable out to sea.
”Make sure you know your limitations and for those with children, ensure you keep a watchful eye over them as things can change in a matter of seconds”.
If you spot someone in difficulty at sea or along the coast dial 999 and ask for the Coastguard.
