Staplers Road in Newport is set to be closed for a period of 3 nights from this Friday, it has been announced.
The main road in and out of Newport will be closed from 18:30 until approx. 06:00 each morning to enable Southern Water contractors to carry out resurfacing works following the water main renewal works that took place earlier in the year.
The road closure, which has been postponed twice previously due to adverse weather, has been rescheduled for this Friday, Saturday and Sunday nights.
In the event of further inclement weather again this weekend, an alternative date for the works have also been announced for the following weekend.
The closure will come in to effect on either Friday 15th November for 3 nights, or Friday 22nd November for 3 nights.
A traffic order issued this afternoon reads:
“Notice is hereby given under Section 14 (2) (a) of the Road Traffic Regulation Act 1984, that Ringway Island Roads Ltd, acting on behalf of the Isle of Wight Council, because works are being or are proposed to be executed on or near the road, considers that the closure to the road as specified below should come into force without delay.
“Staplers Road from its junction with Cross Lane to its junction with Mayfield Drive for a distance of 488 metres.
“Southern Water to carryout Section 58 reinstatement works for 3 nights between 15th and 25th November. Works will only take place Friday to Monday.
“The diversion will affect these streets: Staplers Road, Snooks Hill, Coppins Bridge, St Georges Way, East Street, Cycle Track Cross Town Newport Link, Medina Way, Fairlee Road, Newport Footpath 208, Cycle Track From Newport To Wootton, Racecourse, Lushington Hill, High Street, Station Road, Whiterails Road, Long Lane, Godric Road.
“Diversion route(s) will be signed at the time of closure. Reasonable facilities will be provided to allow access to adjacent premises while the road is closed.
“From 18:00 hours on 15th November 2019, for a maximum period of five days or until the works are complete, whichever is sooner.”
