Residents at Old Charlton House Care Home were feeling the love this Valentine’s Day. The home was decorated with an abundance of hearts with some of the decorations made by the residents themselves. The Dining Room tables were also decorated with hearts and red roses, with each resident receiving a chocolate heart treat, the smiles on their faces told their own story. Residents shared romantic memories from life with their loved ones. One of the stories came from Henry who met his wife, when he lived in Cornwall, on a train. Although the pair hit it off, they ended up going their separate ways. They then met up again on another train, and after a speedy courtship, they ended up marrying, sharing 73 years of wedded bliss and had 5 daughters. Dave Plummer came to entertain everyone by playing love songs on his saxophone. The residents loved singing along, clapping, stamping their feet and dancing. A nice glass of Baileys went down well too and added to the party atmosphere. This was followed by Valentine Bingo, a Valentine group word search and a Valentine quiz. In an amusing twist, 2 of the gentlemen spent the afternoon napping! Hopefully this isn’t what they did to their respective wives during their lives with them! Resident, Nora, said:
“It was great fun and the staff made it a special day for us all.”
Activity Coordinator, Debbie Webb, said:
“It was important to us that we created a special day full of fun and laughter that celebrated their partners who are no longer with them, and from the comments from the residents and their families, we managed to achieve just that.”
