Residents and businesses in Niton have welcomed the installation of a public access defibrillator at Norris Family Grocers in the heart of the village.
Thanks to the efforts of local GP David Anderson, the defibrillator has been affixed to the outside wall of the village shop meaning it is accessible 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
The potentially life-saving device has been sourced from the British Heart Foundation and installed free of charge by local electrician Chris Parsons of Rhind Electrical. Norris Family Grocers were of course more than happy to host the machine.
As well as getting the defib in place, GP David Anderson has arranged free, friendly and relaxed classes of up to 10 people to raise awareness in the Niton community. ‘Niton Community CPR and defibrillator classes’ are now available and anybody interested can sign up at Norris Family Grocers.
The defibrillator can be found on Rectory Road (PO38 2AU), close to the junction with High Street. It follows the installation of a defib at neighbouring Whitwell earlier this month.
