Police have launched an investigation after a man in his 50s was found beaten on a residential street in Newport during the early hours of this morning (Tuesday).
It was just gone midnight that Hampshire & Isle of Wight Constabulary received a report that a man had been assaulted and had received injuries to his head on Melbourne Street, just off Trafalgar Road.
Officers responded to the scene, which was subsequently locked down with cordons in place overnight as initial investigations got underway.
The injured man was taken to St Mary’s Hospital for treatment. He has since been discharged and is now recovering at home.
Police say that enquiries are continuing to establish the circumstances of the incident.
No arrests have been made.
