Barchester’s Vecta House care home in Newport got into the Christmas spirit by hosting its Christmas light switch-on event last week.
Residents were joined by children from Summerfields Primary School who sang carols followed by the turning on of the festive lights.
The Christmas party also included warm mulled wine, minced pies and hot chocolate, while guests won prizes from the Christmas raffle.
The evening ended with a surprise visit from Santa on his sleigh, arranged by activities coordinator Tanya Everson with the Isle Of Wight Round Table. Residents wrapped up warm to see Santa on his sleigh, then Santa walked around Vecta house wishing all residents Merry Christmas.
General Manager, Nichola Shepherd said:
“We endeavoured to give each of our residents something that they could really be excited about in the run up to Christmas and have had lots of treats for the people who live here and their guests. I am pleased that we could hold something like this for our home and it is clear that everyone has really enjoyed the day!”
Mike resident at Vecta House said:
“It has been a lovely day. It was wonderful to see everyone go to so much effort to get in spirit. I really enjoyed listening to the children sing it reminded me of when I was in the Choir as a young boy”.

How lovely. I bet all the residents and visitors love the effort that has been put into making the home looking wonderful for Christmas.
Well done!
