Customers using the car park at Tesco Extra in Ryde now have a maximum 3-hour stay following the installation of new Automatic Number Plate Recognition (ANPR) cameras.
Previously there had been no parking restrictions in the car park, allowing people to park for an extended period.
Island Echo understands that the cameras were installed just a few days ago with cars now monitored upon entry and exit by the trio of cameras. Attendant patrols are to be utilised too.
The maximum stay between 06:00-20:00 is 3 hours, between 20:00-00:00 the maximum stay is 1 hour and between 00:00-06:00 the maximum stay is 30 minutes.
Anyone exceeding the parking limit will be issued with a £70 fine. The car park is operated by Horizon Parking.

It’s not a “fine”. It’s an excess parking charge.
Private parking companies are nothing but legalised highwaymen.
Yes, but in this particular case does anyone really need more than 3 hours to do their shopping and even linger over a coffee?
It’s private land, and to be allowed to park for free for 3 hours as a customer seems more than adequate.
However, there do seem to be a number of cars and vans parked there almost permanently, and perhaps this will make the owner’s move them?
I’m assuming there’s also going to be some method of excluding Tesco workers who have to park there during their shift?
