An 8-year-old boy from Lymington is set to take on the ambitious challenge of running the entire 70-mile coastline of the Isle of Wight during the school summer holidays, all while raising money for the RNLI.
Charlie, aged 8 years and 4 months, will complete the challenge in stages of around 8 miles at a time, travelling to the Isle of Wight on multiple occasions before picking up where he left off. By the end of the Summer, he hopes to have completed the full coastal route.
The youngster has set himself the challenge to test his determination, preparation and perseverance, while supporting a charity that plays a vital role in keeping people safe at sea.
As a family living in Lymington, Charlie and his family spend much of their time swimming, sailing, paddleboarding and enjoying the coastline. It was this close connection to the sea that inspired him to raise money for the RNLI, whose volunteer lifeboat crews respond to emergencies around the Isle of Wight, the Solent and coastlines across the UK.
Emma Jeans, Charlie’s mother, has said:
“Charlie has always loved being outdoors and has set himself this challenge to see what he can achieve through determination, preparation and perseverance.
“As a family living in Lymington, we spend a great deal of our time on, in and by the water. Whether we’re swimming, sailing, paddleboarding or simply enjoying the coastline, the sea is a huge part of our lives.”
“That’s why Charlie wanted this challenge to support the RNLI, whose volunteer crews work tirelessly to keep people safe around the Isle of Wight, the Solent and coastlines across the UK.
“We hope Charlie’s adventure will not only raise valuable funds for the RNLI but also inspire other children and families to embrace the outdoors, challenge themselves and discover that big achievements are possible one step at a time.”
Charlie and his family will be documenting the challenge throughout the Summer with photographs and updates as he works towards completing all 70 miles of the Isle of Wight coastline.
