A new brewer specialising in high-quality craft beer has opened in Bembridge thanks to the hard work and dedication of 2 Isle of Wight brothers and their dad.
Wight Knuckle Brewery was founded in 2021 by George, Edward, and Fergus Bristow with the aim to disrupt how beer is brewed on the Isle Of Wight. The Bristow family has a real passion for all things Isle of Wight, with roots going back 200 years on the island, and enduring enthusiasm for high-quality, craft beer.
However, over a Boxing Day drink, they got onto the subject of craft beer and could not understand why there were so few breweries on the Island, and none focusing on providing craft pale ales and lagers; so they decided to solve that by creating their own.
Based in Bembridge in the garden of the Pilot Boat Inn and leveraging totally sustainable methods, Wight Knuckle uses local ingredients to create English pale ale and IPAs.
The sibling team believes that there is no reason for Islanders and visitors to drink bland European lagers, when delicious beer – made in an environmentally sustainable way – can be produced on the island.
The brothers say that it’s not just about the beer though, as the brewery has plans to support conservation on the Island.
Edward Bristow said:
“Wight Knuckle was founded not just to create a distinctive Isle of Wight craft beer, but to reflect and support our passion for conservation on the Island.
“As a result, each year we plan to give back to local conservation projects, supporting charities like the RSPB in maintaining and protecting local birdlife.Founder George Bristow lives on the edge of Brading Marshes bird reserve and so efforts to protect local and visiting species is a cause very close to our hearts, and as a result we wanted to build a beer that gives back to the Island as much as possible. So for every delicious sip of a Wight Knuckle beer you have, you’ll also be supporting the Island’s amazing wildlife.
“Of course we also passionately brew all our beers in a totally environmentally sustainable way, sourcing ingredients locally from the UK to keep our carbon footprint to a minimum. All our cans will be fully recyclable and we encourage you to do this at home, but if you can’t be bothered we welcome any returns to the brewery where we will do this for you.
“All our spent grain is taken by a local farmer, Francesca, who runs a regenerative micro-farm, as feed for her pigs and we aim to recycle as much of our water with every brew as possible.”

Good luck guys….hope is great success,,,,
Oh great, more drunk fools roaming the streets of bembridge and falling into their second homes before getting into their yaught’s and getting stuck on the sand/shingle banks, why not just stick to the gin! (Only kidding fella’s, good luck in your venture).
Good luck but I’m more concerned about the poor dog laying there in extreme heat! Not good!
The dog is not tied up,it could always move itself into the shade, typical moaning islander, x
Well done to you. Lovely to see a new Isle of Wight family business.
Best of luck with it.
