The Isle of Wight Council has awarded a 2-year contract to Veolia to provide recycling and waste management services on the Isle of Wight.
Island Echo exclusively revealed at the end of 2025 that the previous waste management service providers, Thalia, pulled out of their contract with 15-years still remaining, leaving the council searching for a replacement.
The integrated waste management contract, which began at the start of this month (April) will provide household collection services to over 73,000 residential properties as well as the operation of two Household Waste and Recycling Centres.
Isle of Wight Council, Service Director for Waste, Environment, and Planning, Natasha Dix said:
“The Isle of Wight Council’s priority is, and always will be, providing a reliable, efficient and environmentally responsible waste service for our community.
“Our residents are already some of the most committed recyclers in the country, and this switch marks the next step in supporting the Island’s passion for protecting our beautiful environment.
“We’re pleased to be working with Veolia, who share our commitment to high standards and a sustainable future for our Island. Together, we will continue to build on the strengths of our community and deliver the service our residents deserve.
“For now, nothing changes for households – please put your bins out as normal. Collection days and routines stay exactly the same, and no action is needed from residents at this time.”
Collection days and routines will stay exactly the same for residents at this time, and they should continue to put their bins out as normal, as no action is currently needed.
Veolia’s experienced teams will also operate and maintain the Council’s waste infrastructure, including the Energy Recovery Facility and Materials Recovery Facility.
Following the early exit of a previous contractor, Veolia and the Isle of Wight Council have been working collaboratively over the past few months to ensure essential services continue with as little disruption as possible for residents and businesses on the Island.
Veolia Regional Director, Treatment South, Ben Slater said:
“We are delighted to announce our partnership with the Isle of Wight Council and are ready to deliver essential, sustainable and high quality services to residents and businesses across the Island.
“At Veolia, we have extensive experience and expertise in recycling and waste services and look forward to sharing our knowledge and innovation with the Council to help recycle as much as possible and continue their services without disruption.”

What’s the betting different company name, same employees,
same thing happened with Island Roads!
Nothing will change, I bet they will leave wheelie bins all over the
show and a trail of waste behind them.
Lol
Are we going to get stupid stickers to put on our bins again?
