The White Horse pub in Whitwell is gifting a heart to everybody this Valentine’s Day with the installation of a new public access defibrillator (PAD), giving locals and tourists to the area a fighting chance of surviving a cardiac arrest.
Thanks to charitable donations given to the Isle of Wight Ambulance Service, those living in or visiting the rural village of Whitwell now stand a greater chance of survival should the worst happen. The defibrillator can be accessed 24 hours a day and is now in place on the front wall of the building on the High Street.
This afternoon (Tuesday) the pub’s staff came together with the area’s Community First Responder and Louise Walker from the Isle of Wight NHS Trust to unveil the life-saving device.
In a further demonstration of love, the Island Savoyards have today presented a cheque totalling £800 to the Isle of Wight Ambulance Service Community Defibrillator Scheme – almost enough to fund a brand defibrillator for the Island.
Representatives from the group met with Louise Walker outside Shanklin Theatre to hand over the money, which has been raised by programme sales from the production of The Wizard of Oz.
