A multi-agency operation – which included the tasking of Coastguard Rescue Helicopter 175 – took place on the beach at Luccombe last night (Saturday) after 2 people became cut off by the tide.
Resources from HM Coastguard, Hampshire & Isle of Wight Fire and Rescue Service and the Isle of Wight Ambulance Service rushed to Luccombe at around 22:00.
Due to remote nature of the rescue, a rendezvous point was set up on Shanklin Esplanade where firefighters, paramedics and coastguard crews from Bembridge and Ventnor were stationed.
Bembridge RNLI’s D-Class lifeboat was tasked to the scene providing cover from the water whilst CG 175 – which was only on scene for around 5 minutes before being stood down – watched from the skies.
Thankfully, despite the large response, those cut off by the tide were quickly located and brought back to shore by Bembridge RNLI where they were then checked over in an awaiting ambulance.
Emergency service personnel began standing down at around 22:45.

What are they doing there at 10 pm!
thes idiots should be billed, and nicked for being totally incompetent
So, 10pm out on the beach / rocks, what were they doing out there? There is usually more information about those “in trouble”, or what was taking place. Does anyone know?
Obviously not a good idea to do this
Download the tides app, simple…..
What a waste of Emergency services time and
unnesseccary riske to their lives.
Personally I would invoice them the astronomical call-out cost, which probably runs into thousands of pounds. Haven’t these brain-dead numptys ever heard of tide timetables?
That cost a few thousand pounds well done.
